Karlskrona, Sweden.

Under the patronage of Mrs de Palacio, Vice-president of the European Commission

In cooperaton with the Marinmuseum in Karlskrona EMH is organising the 5th Congress. The congress will take place at the eve of Sail Karlskrona 2004 (circuit Baltic Sail).

Invitation

European Maritime Heritage (EMH) held it’s first congress in 1992. Delegates from thirteen European countries met at Netherlands Maritime Museum in Amsterdam. The second congress was held 1995 in Rochefort, France, and the third in Ellsinore, Denmark 1998. In 2001 twenty countries met in Barcelona, Spain for the fourth EMH congress.

Today EMH has developed into a large European network. EMH links people and institutions involved in preserving and operating traditional ships to each other. The fifth congress will continue this work and focus will be placed on ”How to make the floating heritage available to the public”, ”Scrapping of historical fishing boats within Europe” and ”Merits and hazards of building replicas”.

Karlskrona in Sweden has been chosen to host the congress at the same time as a number of steamers and sailing’s vessels are visiting the harbour ending Baltic sail 2004. The congress will therefore be accompanied by a lot of maritime activities in Karlskrona. The National Maritime Museum of Sweden invites EMH to the Naval Museum in Karlskrona for the fifth common European Maritime Heritage Congress 28 July – 1 August 2004.
The congress offers unique opportunities to show the public a wide range of the common European floating heritage. You are most welcome!

Welcome!
